What is Spyware Shooter?
Spyware Shooter is a free download that will block spyware from downloading off the Internet. The purpose of Spyware Shooter is to block downloading from malicious web pages, reducing the risk of spyware, adware, or hijackers. Spyware Shooter is 100% safe, and will only block malicious sites. NOTE: Spyware Shooter does not add any protection to Firefox or other alternative browsers, it is designed to work with Internet Explorer only.
How do you use Spyware Shooter?
Simply double-click the SpywareShooter.reg file, and click YES to add it to your Registry. You may also right-click the file and select MERGE to add the data to your Registry.
Check this page regularly to see if the Spyware Shooter file has been updated. The date of the most recent update will be posted at the top of this page. When the file has been updated, simply download it again, and double-click it. It will ignore the entires already in your registry, and add any new entries to give you new protection.
How does Spyware Shooter Work?
Spyware Shooter is a ".reg" file. This is sometimes known as a "reg hack", a file which adds information directly to your Windows Registry. The Windows Registry is part of the "back-end" of the operating system, a place where a majority of system settings and options are saved.
The Spyware Shooter .reg file will add entries to the section of your Registry that tells Internet Explorer if sites are good or bad (Trusted Sites and Restricted Sites.) The Spyware Shooter file contains information about thousands of "known bad sites" - sites which may infect your system with spyware, adware or other malicious programs. By marking these sites as Restricted, Internet Explorer will treat these sites with a higher security level. It will block cookies, downloads and ActiveX scripts from running from these sites. This will help prevent automatic installation of spyware from any of these known bad sites.
