ATX Power Connector Compatibility

edited February 2005 in Hardware
I have an ASUS P4C800 Deluxe Mobo and a Hiper HPU-4s525 PSU (not yet installed) the problem is that the psu lacks a WHITE -5VDC wire in ATX main power connector. The instructions mention it "n/c". Is this PSU compatible to my mobo 'cause i dont want fireworks set at home... and anywhere... Help apreciated.

    TosikDevil,

That should just work fine as it is only a sense cable for reading voltages in bios and applications etc. You can plug that psu in without trouble.

And for the record, if that is the Hiper psu i think it is, it beats the Antecs any given sunday ;)

Do you have a -5vdc white on yours? So it seems to be a decision to reduce the cost of PSU... Anyway i think i could better buy one with all wires present. Motherboard multimeter measuerement indicates this one should be pluged in as a condensator is present, yet the ATX PSU states there can be one with n/c which is aplicable to mobos without isa slots. P4C800 Deluxe could be using the wire for some other purpose.

    You are correct Tosik,

Some mobos use that line, but i'm not sure his board needs it.
The MSI Diamond here needs it fot the onboard Creative sound actually.

Just try it out and see if it works. If it's really that good a quality power supply, it should work on any ATX mobo. At the very worst, it just wont boot.

P4C800 Deluxe has an onboard audio... Running without it could piss me off. It is already sold actually so i dont have it. Thanx anyway people!
