Bluescreen (sortof!)

When startup WinXP, get blue screen. Says it is going to do a ScanDisk (in FAT32?) then starts going through one of the user accounts Temporary internet files (*.gif and *.jpg images mostly), doing a "...cross over linked to file allocation..." blah, blah, blah... something like that. I've tried to let it run, but it takes forever and I am not sure exactly what it is doing to begin with? I do have the option at first to skip the scandisk in 10 secs and boot up normally. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!
