Issues with Incoming Connections

edited March 2005 in Science & Tech
Alright. Here Goes....

I have sbc yahoo dsl, and I have a router. I want to know why I can't get anyone to connect to my computer! The only ip address someone can connect to is 192.168.1.100, and i am the only one on my network. I hear about places like no-ip.org, but i don't know how to use them. Programs like the server for ventrillo, and other kinds of servers like ftp don't ever work for me. I can't have gaming servers either! please help :bawling:

If you are the only computer on your network, then why are you using a router? 192.168.1.100 is your local ip address that your router gives you. If you go to a command prompt and type in ipconfig you should see your local ipaddress. You should also see your gateway as 192.168.1.1, that is the ip address of your router.

If you go to this link http://whatsmyip.smokingmedia.com/ you can see what your wan ip address is. Hope this helps.

It might help if you add more details, such as how many computers you are trying to network, etc. If you have multiple computers trying to connect and share stuff, you need to enable your firewall to give those computers access.

Another thing, what brand of router?
