It should support any 266 fsb XP proc, but I don't think that Via chipset the mobo uses supports any faster fsb XP procs. It will also support the dual capable MP procs too, but they are pretty damn expensive. I hope you aren't planning to buy that mobo too, along with a proc. There are much better choices out there for a mATX socket A board in that general price range that that old mobo that can use 333 and 400 fsb XP's.

No, I already have it. It has a duron and I wanted to know what processor would give the most cranking power. So how would you rank the AMD cpus. I guess duron's are like celerons, and the athlons are like the pentiums. What is the highest the athlons went up to in the 200/266 bus cpus? I heard its the xp 2400???

They're still made, but in very small alotments. What's left in the retail channel is primarily residual stock.

    The 2400+ has 512k L2 cache.
    The 2800+ has 512k L2 cache.

Yeah, but those are mobiles. If that mobo doesn't support setting a multi in bios or by jumper, then he will have to pinmod the socket for proper operation. I'm talking about a drop-in that works correctly. Remember, that's an old-skool mobo he has.

But then again, it's not like it particularly matters on the cache department anyhow. 256k to 512k on an Athlon is like adding 20MHz. Yay, right?

Back to the question at hand:

The answer you were looking for

Short answer: Up to AthlonXP (Thoroughbred) 2600+ and Duron (Applebred) 1800. Also up to Athlon (Thunderbird) 1.2G and Duron (Spitfire) 950 (0.18u)

Actually, AMD has also made a limited number of XP 2800+ oem processors too, which are also 266 fsb parts. These are the same proc as the MP 2800+ except not qualified for dual use. Newegg was selling them a month or 2 ago but the only place listing them now is in the link. If you want the fastest XP proc that's a drop-in, better buy that before they are gone. The price isn't too bad either at $110.00.
