processor equivalents?

edited March 2005 in Hardware
Is there a site that show the closest equivalent between AMD and Intel processors? I'm still learning and I'm trying to wrap my brain around this. For example what Intel would be closest to the XP 3200?

    3.2ghz intel :p

Only thing amd isnt as good for is multitasking  (from lack of hyper thredding).
Amd is a much better buy

for benchmarks check somewhere like www.tomshardware.com

Intel CPU speed is the base.

AMD Athlon 64s are faster when 1-1100MHz slower.
AMD Athlon XPs are faster when 1-400MHz slower.

There are exceptions, like media encoding, where Intel wins regardless.

Thanks for the info. Sometimes it feels like I'll never learn enough.

Encoding is an Intel strength, unless you look at newer AMD 64 cpus. They beat Intel at even these tasks, under some conditions. A lot of this 'speed' depends on exactly which applications you are running.
Another good set of benchmarks to look at are the ones at annandtech.com
