Help me with my WoW problems.

Here are the specs of my machine

1700+ overclocked to 1.9Ghz
512 PC3200 HyperX ram
ATI Radeon 128mb 256bit 9800 Pro

I have WoW set on the default settings as of now. I just got my video card on Friday. Before I got the video card the game would kind of skip while in the bigger cities and all. Like I would turn and then it would freeze a little then my guy would turn. I have the fps showing, and when it does this it gets down to like 9fps sometimes. It still does this even with my new video card.

Before hand I was using a Radeon 9600, but I turned down all the settings so it would play better.

Do I need to upgrade anything to fix this issue? I have had this system for about 2 years now, running strong, and overclocked the entire time.

Wow, last format was about a year ago I would say. Right before the SM lan I did format, and that was the last time I can remember, haha. I had thought about doing one since I got my new video card and all, but that is a lot of crap to back up, and I'm lazy. So I guess I will try that tonight or over the weekend.

You could try a defrag for the quick and lazy fix.

true but the fact is nothing is better than the old Format c:/

Well I guess I will try to tackle the format thing tonight. But that means I will have a number of hours down time in Wow, oh noesssss!!!! lol.

So you don't think that I have a hardware problem? Like anything that needs an upgrade? I feel that I could get a couple more months use out of my parts until it is time to upgrade. I have been out of the hardware scene for a while, so I don't know what is the best thing anymore, got to do some homework.

I'd recommend you get yourself another half-gig for WoW. It was quite a large increase in performance for me when I went up to a gig. WoW uses lots of memory. All my settings are maxed And it runs fine. P4 2.8, 9700 Pro, 1GB Kingston Valueram.

So they are doing more work on the servers? I started a new character on the new PvE that went live last week myself.

My computer stutters flying into Orgrimmar or Gadgetzan, simply because there are SO MANY PEOPLE. I can only imagine what it'd be like running to the little bridge in Ironforge that separates the bank from the Auction House.. Laaaaaaaag.

Truth of the matter is, the small skips and jumps are going to happen to damn near any computer with that many polygons, but I too am hoping to smooth it out with a bit of format action today.

MMOs need 1GB of memory. I cannot stress that enough. The difference is night and day.

Rob, when I was a night elf, I went into Ironforge and OMG, there were too many people. I had to leave before my computer crashed, haha. It was so damn laggy. That is why I'm glad I am on one of the new servers now, not as many people "yet".

Not on my server. Gadgetzan might as well be empty, that place is useless. It doesn't skip for me when flying around either. Ironforge isn't that bad on my server, but it is still a very noticeable difference from anywhere else. The sad thing is, you could refer to the city as lagforge and everyone knows what you're talking about. :wtf:

    I agree get a gig!

Gadgetzan is hardly useless. There are quests from 45-55 there, that net about 160k exp all told... Plus it takes you into Zul'farrak for good loot, Un'goro Crater for 50-55 questing, Caverns of Time when it opens (55+ instance, blackrock spire+++) and more.

Plus it has the only neutral auction house in all of Azeroth, so you can find those crossbows which the Horde have trouble finding because there's so few of them playing to find them.

I'm gonna have to agree with mmonnin. The biggest problem here is the Blizzard servers and not your computer. Although more RAM would help you are still going to get some stutter in the big cities. Iron Forge in particular is terrible no matter what computer you have. If you were just going to reformat for the sake of the game I'd save your time because it won't help performance. There is just too much data transfer in the big cities right now and Blizzard still hasn't figured out how to deal with it.

I'm going to have to disagree.. This is good old fashion video lag we're talking about, not client/server issues.

    //EDIT:

For what it's worth, today is the first day ever that my server is down for maintenance on a non-patch day. We've had 100% non-patch uptime since release until today. :D

Even Tuesdays? Blizzard takes the servers down on Tuesdays at 6 am PST for maintenance. What server do you play? What kind of population is there?

    Stormrage. High population.

    Even tuesdays.

I play on Eldre'Thalas, it is one of the new servers. Hasn't been down since I started playing on it Last Sat. It is medium population, so that is sweet. I'm sure Blizzard has their hands full with all these servers to maintain, and with so many people still getting the game, it has to be nuts over there.

I remember reading about how this has been totally different for Blizzard. This is the first time they have had to continually work after the game has been released, IE for server maintanence and patches.
