A nice change of pace...

Well here at work we build servers all day long. The other day we got a chance to build a killer pc for our lead programmer/owner. His rig was having issues so he decided he wanted a new machine. We got to pick the parts and assemble it.
We had 2 rules 1 it had to be intel, that has to do with our software. 2 it had to be silent.

so we came up with this...

CASE LL ALU|PC-V1100B BLACK RETAIL $230.00

MB LGA775 INTEL 925XE D925XECV2LK R $199.00

VGA SAPHIRE|X300 128MB 100591L $78.00

POWER TT| 680W (P4)W0049 RUD RTL $199.00

CPU P4/3.46CGz 1066M L775/2MB HT RT $1,045.00

DDR2 -KINGST| 533MZ KVR 2GB KIT $512.00

2 HD 74GB|WD 10,000RPM 8MB WD740GD $352.00

DVD+/-RW 16x|NEC w/ sw ND-3520A BLK $62.99

Subtotal $2,677.99
Tax $194.15
Shipping $76.57
Total $2,948.71

No real mods but for us it was a nice change of pace. When you 450 to 600 server machines that dont vary huge amounts its nice to play with some latest and greatest hardware.

XP install time 15 minutes. Total build with OS install 5 hours. Mainly cuz we stopped to admire the case over and over again.

Noise level... we could not hear it running unless we put our ear right against the case.

It is silent. Thing is almost completely inaudible. Its a stock intel cooler but the fan is 90mm and spins at 2500 rpm. The TT 680w is also silent as well. Case doors come lined with sound deadening material. We had to take the PSU fan grill off because the mounting plate would not fit with it on.

I myself was impressed with how quiet it was. It is making me rethink the vacuum cleaner I call a pc at home. :D

Man, why dont you build me one of those except stick a dual core athalon in it and youll be my best friend forever!!!, but seriously, minus the CPU choice thats a killer PC, I wouldve got a heatpipe cooler for it. and a nice 120 mm panaflow, or maybe something quieter, ;D
