SOBER virus?!?!

Some days ago my harddrive started to make sounds, like the power was disrupted. However windows xp just kept like it was.
To day I was really pissed by the sound the harddrive made, so I decided to do the works and check the entire system. I couldnt find any problems, except that my virus software(panda) couldnt be removed entirly and I couldnt re-install either. No virusses were found before I did that though.
I tried system restore, after that things got worse and worse and now my computer refuses to start up windows, no mather how.
Is my hardrive smashed or is this the result of the sober virus, which I could have contracted, cause I hardly ever check unknown adresses of my email and go on just removing it?
And how can I get some live back in my computer?

If it's making that much noise I would suspect it is.

Before you do anything else download the HD testing program from the drive manufacturer and see what it says. If the drive is OK you don't want to keep trying to reinstall without sorting out the problem first. Doing so will almost certainly overwrite your files and maybe your personal data. If you don't have any data you care about then that's another story.

    Good Luck! :)
