Realtek has released a new ALC AC97 audio driver for Windows. The driver supports all ALC series audio chipsets from ALC100 up to ALC850.

Download: Realtek ALC AC97 Audio Driver v3.70 WHQL (98/98SE/ME/2000/XP/2003) (11.1MB)
The ALC650 incorporates proprietary converter technology to achieve a high SNR, greater than 90 dB. The ALC650 AC'97 CODEC supports multiple CODEC extensions with independent variable sampling rates and built-in 3D effects. The ALC650 CODEC provides two pairs of stereo outputs with independent volume controls, a mono output, and multiple stereo and mono inputs, along with flexible mixing, gain and mute functions to provide a complete integrated audio solution for PCs.

Installed them for the onboard sound on my MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum.

Seems to be some improvement in sound clarity, especially in my rear set of 2.1 speakers (identical to the front set).

No glitches after several hours of gaming (Age of Empires II expansion).

    Thanks, Spinner. :)

I got problems with my speakers were they aren't working and i'm going to format the comp but I came across this update. Thought I'd give it a shot.

I've got Realtek AC97 Audio Drivers but I get this error message after DL (see pic).

    Any suggestions please? Thanks

Try right-clicking on the file and looking at "Properties". The copy I downloaded had some stuff at the bottom mentioning something to the effect that the file came from another computer and might be blocked. There was an "Unblock" button, too.

I didn't have to do any of this to get the file to work, but it's worth a try.

FWIW, the file I downloaded is 11,694,080 bytes in size. Check your copy and make sure that your download isn't being interrupted before it is complete.

The dl worked after formating the comp.

FYI, the file size is 11.1MB which is approx the same size as yours and there was no sign of it being 'blocked' in properties.

    Thanks again :)
