"Delayed Write Failure" with EM 3

As most of you know there was an EM 3 update a while back, I have never had a problem in the past but now this has happened several times in the last few days, since I updated. Here is the discription of the update from Larry's site
Electron Microscope v3.1.1 (Update)

Under certain circumstances EM would not test a new protein and save a copy if it did not already exist. That issue has been resolved.

There are a few protein configurations that have been confusing EM and it has had a hard time tracking the frames and catching the completed work unit info. This appears to be resolved. Please let me know if EM continues to miss saving the info on a completed work unit. It is possible that this issue isn't completely fixed.

The newest core, QMD, is now supported. It is noted by a white computer screen icon.

Is this causing the problem it was supposed to fix ? Also I am not to sure what the xyz file is, I hope it is just for stats building within EM. It does not appear to have affected the work unit. It has happened on several of my 9 boxes.

Any Ideas ? Should I worry ?

The error has nothing to do with Em3 at all. If you look its in the FAH work directory and EM3 doesnt write anything there at all.

I dont know what went wrong with FAH there. How is it setup? It looks like a network path and not something on the local hard drive.

Is the file it's writing on a local, networked or possibly an external usb drive?

These folks seem to have some similar experiences. Maybe their solution(s) will be of help. :)

While I agree with those who suggested that your problem is likely not with EMIII, I have had a (different) glitch of my own with the latest release of EMIII. Restarting the program takes care of the problem. Sorry, but I can't remember the exact error message other than I'm sure it wasn't the same problem you're having.

The reason I thought it was em3 was, It had just frozen up and I closed and re opened it. a few minutes later I get the error message. The message was for another machine on my network. I figured that if it was popping up on this machine it must be em3. ( Guess not )

Why would an error on another box show up on this one ? The logfile for the box in question shows no anomolies.

The Delayed Write Failure may have been what caused EMIII to wig out. If it was trying to read a file on the remote machine that had trouble being written to (updated) then that could be the source of the problem.

Have you noticed any other Network-related anomalies?

    Hi scott,
I just had the exact same thing happen to me. I'm also looking at em3 because that's the only thing that has changed. I up-dated to the newest version last night. Maybe it's time for me to do a clean install of em3 and see if that helps.

Well yes I have. For many months now my network will just go down. Doing a reset on the router fixes it. But this has never caused the "write failure" in the past.

My thoughts exactly. It started happening right after the update in EM3. I should also point out that I just got my Dual monitor setup working about the same time. And EM3 was borking on the second monitor, as in .. when a screen covered it up and was moved it would wipe the graphic of em3 and would then be "Not responding" in the device manager.

Not sure if that has anything to do with it but it was another change to the system.

    Thanks guys

    I've changed my mind... :D

I had the same EMIII problem again and this time paid a little more attention. Like Scott & Donut, I'm running the new 3.1.1 version. The small pics are the two error dialog boxes I get; the bigger picture is something interesting I found when I was combing through the "Options" pages trying to see if I could have a brilliant idea. (There's a first time for everything :vimp: )

It would appear that it might have something to do with the HTML Stats function. I unchecked the box labeled "Save XYZ File" and all the "HTML Auto Publisher" stuff on the following options page.

As for the "Skin INI Data Error", I'm using the custom S-M skin. Is that true for you other guys having the problem?

My "Save XYZ File" box was not checked.

v3.1.2 was just released to address "the freezing problem".

    Get it here.

    Hope it helps! :)
