ATX 2.03 power supply on a old 300mhz machine?

edited April 2005 in Hardware
I hooked up an atx 2.03 power supply that was used for a newer p4 machine to my old 300mhz box. The power connectors are the same shape so it fits, but it doesn't appear to power anything on. Wonder if it is due to incompatibilies? Like I need an older atx version or something for an older machine ?

Is the PSU from a Dell or another OEM?

Hi Radfaraf, ATX 2.x is backwards compatable, so any true ATX12V device should work fine with an atx 2.x PSU. Double check the case connections to ensure the atx-switch connector is on the right pins?

    Good luck

Perhaps the motherboard is dead then I guess. I played with it for an hour today and I got it to turn on twice and no more times after that. :bawling: Hooked up the power supply to a different machine and that worked fine with no problems.

Take a look at the board itself, particularly the capacitors. Does it look like they are expanding or leaking at all? I had similar problems with an old MSI board I had (similar era).
