Icrontic_11 No Post
Howdy folks. I picked up IC_11 from the post office yesterday and got her all set up today, but she doesn't want to post. Hard drive and fans spin up, but no display, and no sounds from the hard drive like it was starting up.
So far I've tried:
Resetting CMOS
Reseating RAM in multiple slots
Removing PCI ethernet
Disconnecting HD
Swapping VGA cards
Any other ideas? She got beat up pretty bad by the postal service (maybe if they take out their aggression on a computer, they won't have enough energy to shoot each other), but the case took most of the damage. No electronics seemed to have been hurt (although I'm still straightening fins on the heatsink - using a spare until I get the watercooling set up).
IC_11 is:
Athlon XP 1600+ AGOIA, unlocked
Abit KG7-RAID
Antec 300W PSU
TNT2? AGP card
WD 1.6GB HD
128mb pc2100

Are there any error beeps at all?
It worked right up until I boxed it up to go out.. Dammit I hate it when this crap happens! The thing died on the way to Detroit, too!
****ing usps
Nope, no error beeps . I'm having a hard time thinking of anything. I do have a spare processor I could try in it (1300 Duron), but I'd be shocked if the CPU is the problem. Unfortunately I got rid of most of my other spare parts (mobos) before I moved, so I don't have too many other things to swap out. Man, if only the HD was borked, I have another 5 drives just like it! I think I'll try one of the sticks of RAM from my computer.
Throw that CPU in and swap a PSU if possible, then we'll know for sure.
I'm really surprised, but it appears that the CPU was the problem. There is a small chip in the core on the upper left hand corner, but I've seen processors work that were in much better shape. I guess something bonked it in shipping and we're just not lucky.
Anyway, I swapped in my Duron 1300 and it ran fine. Just trying to get it on the network now. I have no other use for this processor, so I'm happy to donate it to the team, unless somebody has a faster one they'd like to donate. I'll bet I can get this chip up at least another 100 mhz. It's currently air cooled with a Sunon fan and an SLK-900, but it will be water cooled soon.
Lesson's learned... UPS sucks at handling "fragile" stuff.
