Nothing but windows explorer
I caught a nasty on Feb 11th. I finally was able to remove all the accumulated virus/trojans. However, it corrupted Windows XP to the point where I have windows explorer only. I download Firefox so now I have internet acess. But no calendar in my system restore.
The HP computer did not come with an XP disc but did come with some kind of backup on the D partition - but I can't get behind the HP logo to see what it is.
I would really, really like to keep my current installed programs.
Any suggestions?

There is probably a recovery program you can download to trigger the backup from the hidden partition. Just be careful and read the fine print before you use it. Many manufacturers set the computer up to be restored just as it was when you took it out of the box, meaning that ALL your data would be gone...
