Samsung Electronics announced that it has developed the world’s largest TFT LCD panel, an 82-inch panel that it will unveil at CeBIT 2005.
The panel is made using Samsung’s patented super patterned-ITO vertical alignment (S-PVA) technology, and features a contrast ratio of 1200:1, a brightness of 600 cd/m2 and a response times of 8ms.

The panel will be manufactured at the company’s new seventh-generation (7G) plant, which will be run by S-LCD, a joint venture between Samsung and Sony.

The fab will begin mass production at the end of March and will focus on LCD TV panels, with sizes including 23-inch (24 per substrate), 26-inch (18 per substrate), 32-inch (12 per substrate), 40-inch (8 per substrate) and 46-inch (6 per substrate).

The company stated that it also developed the first 40-inch TFT-LCD panel in August 2001, the first 46-inch panel in October 2002, the first 57-inch model in December 2003 and now the first 82-inch panel.
