Can not get network card to work

edited March 2005 in Science & Tech
I recently ran Ad-aware and removed some spyware. After rebooting, a lot of my network devices where moved to the Unknown part in Device Manager and i can't get into the internet. I've tried removing them ( in safe mode and in regular mode ) but after i removed them, my regular network adapters, actual hardware, not ports like wan miniport (l2tp) are back up, but still in the unknown area in Device manager with a yellow exclamation port. I've ran Ad-aware, About Buster, CWshredder and HijackThis, but cant' seem to fix it, can some one help?

have u tired "searching for drivers" or what ever XP calls it on the unknown devices, XP has defualt drivers, if i remember correctly when searching for the drivers in the wizzard look in the

    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\

directroy, or if u know the manufacturer of the nic card you can fid the drivers from the website :)

Yes, i downloaded the drivers from the intel website ( i have a built in nic card from an intel mother board) and it still defaults to unkonwn devices... It was working just fine before this. ( well of course it was)

Try booting into Safe Mode and uninstalling all the "unknown" devices and everything under "Network Adapters". Reboot and let Windows set things up again.

Been there, done that... actually they are working now after i used winsockfix.. but they are still in the unknowned area in Device Manager... which will drive me insane for sure... and there is a lag when entering windows... but the problem is still there. If i unistall them and install them again, they go back to unknown with the yellow exclamation mark. I have to use winsockfix for them to work....
    any more suggestions?

Sorry, man. Your first post was plain as day (when I read it through again). I didn't mean to suggest something you'd already tried... :banghead:

You might go to System Tools>>System Information, click on "Tools", then "File Signature Verification Tool" and see if the spyware messed up some files that winsockfix is unable to repair.

You might also try going into Control Panel>>Network Connections, open your connection(s) and then click "Properties" and see what Clients, Protocols, etc are present (or missing).
