edited March 2005 in Hardware
i bought a 256mb mmc and formatted it using my phone...
afterwhich i tried accessing it using a card reader on my PC...
how come there are no files or folders to be viewed but when i check on the properties there are bytes that are already used...

i can not even do a defrag on that mmc...

does the mmc have a corrupted/bad sector?

i formated using the phone... so it will create some folders for the phone to use... i can also view the folders using my phone but when i switch to card reader on my PC there is no files or folders that are displayed!!!

in short, i can view the folders and can format the mmc using a phone...
on the otherhand, using a card reader, i can not do anything on that mmc... format and view files or folders

    wierd?! any suggestions...

EDIT: It took me a while to type out my post so I didn't see your last response. :)

The file system on a freshly formatted storage device takes up some space. You might also be seeing the effect of the different measurement systems used by hardware companies and by Windows.
    The Manufacturers method:
There are 1000 bytes per kilobyte (KB). There are 1000 kilobytes per megabyte (MB) or 1,000,000 bytes.

    The Windows (Binary) method:
There are 1024 bytes per kilobyte. There are 1024 kilobytes per megabyte or 1,048,576 bytes.

256 X 1,000,000 bytes = 256,000,000 bytes, divide that by the Windows standard of 1,048,576 and you get 244MB. Is that roughly what you're seeing as free space?

is there a compatibility issue on the capacity of a card reader to read?
i mean if its higher than 256mb most likely some card reader will not read the media?

cause my dealer said that the mmc can be read using his card reader?
