I can not make up my mind

the only thing missing from the sony is a dvd/rw, if it had that I would get it in a heart beat

or if anyone has a better one (under 6 lb) I am listening

my current laptop is nice and all, but it weights around 10 lb, and that is not including everthing else

+ I want to stay under 2000 dollers

BTW I am currently leaning too the HP one

I am kind of looking for a sub sized laptop

    14" and smaller

    under 6 lb in weight

kinda leaning to the sony, it has a better subsystem then the HP

the fact that it is only 4.2 lb helps

    thanks for the suggestion tho

Ever looked at the Averatecs? Highly rated in PC Mag. This one is 4.5 Lbs, 12.1" screen, 512 RAM, DVD ROM/CD burner, built in 802.11g, only $950 after rebate but I've seen even better deals on it around.

Dell have their new laptops with a 6800 Ultra now. You'll get it for about 2K i think. If you find a coupon for it, you could get a better deal.

    looking for a centrino setup

the sony is starting to win

the 9700 with 64 meg decated vid ram is almost too good to pass up

on top of the fact it can game almost as good as the one in my sig almost cements it

and it is smaller the the other one, solid too

played around with both at bestbuy

    Hi,

Between vaios...I had been using a c1 picturebook..and love this computer...
    Between VGN-S360 I prefer the VGN-T270P/L.
Now I am using a vaio u101 and it is perfect (maybe the keys a little small at first, but then you get used to it...) and it is really small... :)

Well, if the Sony is the only one you're considering, I guess you'll have to pick the Sony.

It looks like a nice notebook. I think the screen is a bit small, but if you're requiring a very light weight you can't really go with a decently sized screen.

As for the small screen, I've come to the conclusion that big screens on laptops sorta defeat the purpose of a laptop. I've seen guys on planes have trouble opening up their wide sceens on a seat-back tray. The big screens add weight, and when a laptop is in your lap, the screen is about 8 inches from your face. How big does it have to be? Furthermore, for the money you save buying a small screen, you can pick up a 17 inch flat panel to plug into when the laptop is on your desk.

...except that I purchased a notebook with a 15.1" widescreen for $200 less than the Sony he's considering - and the only stat that's lower on my notebook is the video is the 9600 Mobility instead of the 9700 Mobility (The CPU is different too - a 2.0GHz AMD64 rather than a 1.7GHz P-M). Then again, mine weighs 3 pounds more, and I use it for LAN parties rather than lugging my entire PC there...

that is why I have A 19" CRT

the laptop in my sig(sager 5680) is just becoming too heavy to tote around all the time.

it is staying as my system at home

one of these days I will build a desktop to replace it.

EDIT when I go one deployments, I am already lugging around at least 40 pounds of stuff, as carry on.

the sager is becoming a back braker with the 15 pounds more.

I'm actually rather surprised that the Sony can be so light - usually the notebooks with decent vid cards in them are heavier. I'd say it's probably your best choice overall.

yes I have pretty much set my mind on that one

my only complant about it is the lack of dvd/rw

oh well I do have an external dvd/rw drive I can use when needed

want to put one of the 100 gig 5400 RPM drives

also need a extra 512 stick of RAM too

    Nice lappy dude

I really like the smaller lighter ones. Both of mine are way huge, heavy and fairly inpracticle. Sure they are fast, but so are the smaller lighter ones.

This thread has made me want to sell one of mine in favor of one of the lighter ones.

Anyone wanna buy the one in my sig?

Did you replace your hard drive?

    Mine died. :-/

I bought a 120GB Fujitsu 5400 rpm, got all the screw out, but cannot get the bottom shell off and afraid of breaking the case plastic?
