ilink driver sony dcr-hc30

edited June 2005 in Science & Tech
my computer won't recognize my camera when I plug it in with the ilink cable. It does recognize it when I use the usb cab;e, but I'm needing to capture some video. I'm using adobe premier pro 1.5, but i also tried the windiws movie maker and it doesn't even recognize it. I lost the cd that came with the camera because I thought it was only a photo editing program, no where on it or the documentaion with the disc say anything about it having drivers on it.

so anyway, does anyone know how to help or where i can get the driver?

LOL! Welcome to the club, not even a week ago I had this same problem. The fix is easy.

First go to your Device Manager, uninstall your drivers for "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers", and also remove your "1394 Net Adapter" if you have any. Reboot your system, and once rebooted, THEN plug in your Sony and it should start reinstalling everything and work perfectly fine.

I have the same camera BTW, it's a great little toy :D

okay, I'll go try that. I've read your responses to some other peoples problems and you seem to know what you're talking about. Thank you for the response. I hope it works.

I've had the camera for a few months and I have actually captured video with it on this very same computer. Since then, my computer malfunctioned and best buy had it for 3 and half months and spent over $3000 fixing it. It was rediculous. anyway, now it won't work. so hopefully this will make it work. I'm gonna go try it right now.

    thanks,

You spent $3000+ on fixing a camera that doesn't even cost maybe $600 with tax? You should have gotten yourself something like a GL1 or GL2 or something for that price.

No, my COMPUTER was being fixed. I had gotten it at best buy and bought the warranty on it, so THEY spent the money. And they were so rude about it. They kept screwing it up even more. it was really rediculous. And yes, if I had that money to spend on a camera, i probably would have got a gl2.

I went to the device manager and looked through every individual device listing and I couldn't find any IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers. I uninstalled the sony camcorder from the usb listing, but i still couldn't find the IEEE thing.

OK, here's a screenie of my stuff, I figure if you have a firewire controller you should have something similar.

BTW, what OS are you using? I've been assuming it's XP SP2.

So you've connected the camera to your PC via Firewire(iLink) and it doesn't want to install any drivers or recognize the camera?

Also, do you have it set to "PLAY/EDIT"?

You know, I am curious. How and where is your Firewire connection? I know some sound cards and graphics cards have firewire. I am curious if you are using one of those, and if you have the drivers for it installed correctly perhaps. Or is it through your motherboard's built in firewire.

I am also curious if the firewire even works, if it's not just burned out or broken(yeah life sucks at times). So if you have an external drive or something else you can plug into the firewire port to see if it works, you should give it a shot to be sure. Annoying huh? :-/

Yes, I have the camera turned on to play/edit, and I am using a toshiba satellite notebook with a built-in firewire port. Since I couldn't even see the port listed in the device manager, I began to wonder if maybe it didn't get hooked up to the system board correctly, if at all, during on of the repairs in the last few months. I took it back to best buy (who SUCKS, btw) and they looked at it and said they would run some diagnostics on it and let me know what's going on in the morning. They know me on a first name basis there because of all the trouble I've had in the past 3 and a half months. What started out as a simple dvd drive replacement turned into 3 and a half months of lies and bull**** because they screwed up. The good news is, this would be the 4th hardware replacement which means that I qualify for the "no lemon" policy, which means I get a new laptop.

Anyway, thank you for all your help, I'm sure I would still be frustrated and trying all sorts of stuff to get it to work if I didn't find this site. You have been such a help to me you don't even know. Thank you very much, I really appreciate it.

I'll keep you updated as soon as I hear from best buy, that way you might be able to help other people if they have the same problem as me. Again, Thank you very much.

hey, i had the same problem, i was just on here like for 2mins reading ur stuff, i WAS JUST ABOUT TO uninstall my drivers, the one u advised, but while i was reading on, to see if it actually worked or not, my cam went idle, then i just out of annoyance or something, went to the camcorder and "restarted" it, then suddenly it detected my device... maybe u jsut have to wait and it will detect ur camcorder automatically. :P

Yeah, sony definitely let the camera out too early, it has a few bugs. But since I had the original problem, I haven't had it since, so I guess it's just an initial start-up problem. Oh well, I'm glad you didn't have to waste too much time or energy with it.
