I have had a hankerin to play with a duallie. And I have two boxes with XP2500+ mobiles in them (same steppings) Will mobiles work in a dual setup ?

Do Mobiles have SMP support?

If so what would be a good board ? Both these chips are currently running 12.5 x 200FSB could I expect to get that on a dual set up ?

Your duallie newbie

I was just going to refer you to Mudd's thread... You should just give in to the temptation and go for it - it'd be the perfect intro to dually "play" :p

Yep, it's for sale, scott. ;)

Now to answer your question; will they work on a dually? The answer is, both yes and no, depending on the mobo. They will work without any mods at all except for pinmodding the multi on the Asus A7M266-D and they are sensed as MP procs on it but they aren't sensed as MP procs on the MSI board without modding them. For them to be sensed as an MP on the MSI, you need to do some bridge mods on the set of bridges that control MP or mobile operation, don't remember what the bridge set is though. Instead of modding the mobiles, your easiest way to get MP2800 performance on it would be to buy a couple of these Barton XP2800 procs that have evidently been put out for people wanting to upgrade older machines that can't run a 333 or 400 fsb proc and want the highest performance they can go with their old machines. Those are 266 fsb Bartons with a 16 multi and the only mod you should have to do is to connect the last bridge that controls MP sensing and they aren't too expensive either. As far as the Chaintech, Tyan and Gigapuke boards go, I don't know. I never tried a mobile in the Chaintech I had before it died and I have no experience with the others.

Hope that clears up the air a little for you.

There is a good chance you can get 5 GHz from those CPUs even on a dualie.

    Well
I am checking these mobiles out at 266, seems none of the dually board run much more than a 266FSB and even fewer have any oc abilities.
I have one running prime now at 133 x 18 CPU-Z reports 2405mhz and has run about an hour so far.

Can you pin mod an unlocked processor ?

No Dualie boards OC that well with the FSB. The MSI one is the best and its nothing compared to any modern day single CPU motherboard.

I would think so scott. I dont see why not.

Yeah, I have my Asus dually board pinmodded to a 16 multiplier on my XP-M's in it.
