Microsoft to 'License' Third Party IM Vendors

When Microsoft announced last week its intentions to phase out support for older instant-messaging clients, it failed to mention one little detail. As part of the upgrade — which Redmond says it is enforcing for security reasons — it is requiring any third-party messaging vendors who want to interoperate to sign a license. Problem is, the licenses probably won't be ready to sign by October 15, the deadline by which Microsoft is cutting over to its new messaging support program.
