If the sound is built into the motherboard tell us the brand and exact model#.

If it's a seperate card the brand and model number is probably stamped on the card somewhere. If it isn't, look at the biggest chip in the card and list everything stamped on it.

To possibly save you from having to open your case, onboard sound will have the speaker connection(s) up near where you plug in your keyboard and/or mouse, usually in a vertical configuration. A seperate card will have the connections more to the lower part of the rear of the case and the jacks will be side by side horizontally. :)

There appear to be several revisions of that board, the "Pro", the "1.1", etc. If there is anything else in the manual or stamped on the motherboard you should be able to narrow it down.

The following is for the "Pro 5.0" version. You might want to see if you can spot the sound chip on the board. If there is one with markings beginning with "CMI" or "SiS 7012" that would be the one.

This is the Driver page for the motherboard. There are several sound drivers listed; make sure you get the one for your chip and Operating System (WinXP, Win98, etc).

You might want to bookmark that website - it has all the other drivers for your board should you need them. :)

See if you can find something marked on the motherboard like "Revision x.x" or "Vx.x". They seem to have used several different sound chips on the various versions. I've attached a picture from the ECS website of a typical version mark.

Since there are only two different drivers (that I could find, anyway) and neither are very large downloads you might just want to download one of them and give it a shot. If it works, great. If not, try the other one.

I downloaded both of them, first the SiS 7012 PCI Audio Driver, i installed and restarted my computer, when i tried to play music, the music play, but there was no sound. So then I uninstalled it, and tried the other one, but for the second one (C-Media 9738 Codec Sound Driver) i couldnt figure out how to install it. I feel like a dumb ass, but can u help me on this one too :S

Look on the mothebaord and between the pci slots farthest from teh cpu it show a revision number. Like 1.0 or 3.0 etc..

I have built maybe 50 computers with the various k7s5a boards.

Did it work before? Are you using the front jacks some cases have or the rear jacks on the back?

I just walked a buddy thats a hopeless computer noob through this exact problem a week ago on the phone. Trust me if I can get his sound working I can get yours.

email me and I'll pass along my phone number if you want to hurry and get this done faster. I have a bunch of those drivers stored on my server here and I can email them to you and we can get this sorted.
