How to set boot delay for SATA hard drives on GA-7N400

edited March 2005 in Hardware
Hi 2 all, I'm using single 300GB, 7200rpm, 16MB cache, SATA Maxtor on Gigabyte 7N400 Pro 2 rev. 2.0! I had problems detecting my HDD! My solution was to put the 2 CD-ROM drives I have on a different IDE cables as Masters. Now the HDD is recognized by the Silicon Image 3512A Controler, but not every time.

Anyway I found that some SATA HDD's like 250GB, 300GB and bigger, need more time to power up & to be ready for the Bios to detect them. My problem is that I can't force my motherboard to wait longer before starting the memory count. It was mentioned somewhere in the Gigabyte's FAQ, that this is possible by adjusting "Boot delay time" or "IDE delay time" settings in the BIOS. The problem is that I can't find options like this in the BIOS even if I press ctrl+F1 for advanced options. I am sure that all this problem with recognition of those HDD's is about that delay time. You can try it your self: if you can't get SATA drive recognized by Bios, just turn off your PC, press & hold reset key, than turn on your pc, and keep holding the reset key untill you hear your drive powers up, than release it, your SATA HDD is now recognized without problems.

Sorry about my english (I am Bulgarian), and for the long post. btw I am using FK bios & latest 3512A Bios ver.

PLS HELP :)
