Ram?

edited March 2005 in Hardware
Ok guys, i need help.
Specs:
AMD 64 3000+
ASUS K8N-E DELUXE
512MB RAM
ATI 9600XT
80 GIG MAXTOR DIAMONDMAX HD

I recently upraded my processor and motherboard to those of above, and then i reformatted my windows xp pro. when i play counterstrike source it either crashes with a msg "the instruction...memory cannot be "read". and i also get BSOD's. i ran memtest x86 and got 455 errors in test #7, so what i need to know is, is my ram corrupted or is there a problem with my L2 cache? i will buy a new stick of ram if anyone knows that it is the ram for sure, and my processor is still under warranty so i can take it back and get a new one.
If i need to give u more info, just ask.
Thanks a heap in advance

Exactly what RAM do you have?

What speed and timings is it set to?

Yes, memtest only tests the RAM.

It appears that your new board may not agree with the old RAM. Try relaxing the memory timings in the bios and run memtest again. Timings being set too tight for your particular memory could cause it to error. Otherwise I would say it is bad.

    BTW
I highly recomend getting good name brand memory and not generic.

OK Now that I see your full specs as they appear in your sig I can see that you have some generic RAM that in needs to be replaced. If it is new and can be taken back to where you bought it, do so. Then get better name brand like Corsair, Mushkin, OCZ, Kingston and Crucial to name a few. It will cost more but will be worth it. A long time ago I bought some generic stuff that the first stick was bad and I took it back. They verified it with their tests. They took another off the shelf and tested it before I left. NO GOOD! Then 3 more that wouldn't pass. And I finally asked for some Corsair and all was well with the world from then on. After that I quit buying generic anything. :)

    BTW
It is adjustable in the system bios. Keep hitting the 'del' key on your keyboard at startup. Since you have told me so far says it will not get better by changing because you have not gone into the bios and changed it yourself so it is running at the 'default' speed and can't do any better.:(
