Problem Ripping Some of my newer CDs to my iPod.

I just picked up an iPod mini because I'd finally given up dealing with CDs on long plane trips. I'm sitting here running my CD ripping assembly line in iTunes and most of it is going well, except it appears that some of my newer CDs have some type of copy protection that significantly slows down the process and then crashes iTunes after ripping about the 3rd song. Has anyone had this problem before, and can someone point me towards a decent ripping program that might work? Thanks guys.

Well, it actually looks like the real problem is my DVD rom drive. It appears to be taking a crap on me. Getting variable speeds, crashes the computer sometimes, fun stuff. But I did manage to rip this huge stack of CDs, all in a lazy days work.
