Anyone recommend a good, simple web server app?

I want to set up a small webserver at the office, to act as an intranet / extranet server. It will have limited access, just the staff and some client access as well, so it does not have to be a high-end app.

Requirements:

- Windows XP Pro OS.
- must have username/password protected access control to specified directories.
- must be reasonably secure.
- not something "overkill", cheap is good, free is better. :)
- reliable based on your experience or good user feedback/recommendations.

I have my eye on a piece of shareware that looks good, but wanted to get feedback from anyone using simple web server software on their own systems.

Thanks,

Dexter...

    Abyss :)

Simple but has all the features you require. Can have ASP, .NET, Perl and PHP added to it :)

Heh heh, that's the one I was looking at :) Have you used this one yourself?

I used to use it yes. Only reason I stopped is because I needed to learn how to use & configure apache (best to develop for the platform the code is gonna run on) :)

It's an excellent little webserver. Does just what is says on the tin. Unless you have a Win2003 server lying around with IIS6 on it, this is the next best thing to run if you want your app to support NTLM :)
