When I try to access my G drive(partition), I get a window saying that DEP has to close explorer.

The actual message states, "To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program." And Windows Explorer is listed. It seems to only happen to this particular partition, I am trying to clean out all kinds of crap in it, and can't seem to do so becuase it shuts it down.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Data Execution Prevention, I figure it comes with SP2 I don't recall having it before then... you can find it under the System Properties, Performance Options.

Sounds like there is a virus of some sort hiding in that partition. And yes sp2 enables DEP which works with NX (a64, opteron) and xD-bit (p4 5xxJ and 6xx, some xeons). Can't remeber exactly, but i think it is buffer overflow prevention.

You can try booting from your AV disk and then scanning that partition.
