Computer worked fine before spring break, powered down as normal, and one week later I am greeted by this:

Computer goes through BIOS loading screen (progress bar goes all the way over) then black screen with "press f1 to retry boot, press f2 for setup" and 2 short beeps. As far as I understand, this means it can't find the boot sector...what can I do about this?

TestDisk has saved several of us with similar problems. :)

Was the computer unplugged while you were away? You might have a dead CMOS battery.

I'm confused. I tried to put in a burned windows CD I have so I can use the recover console to do fdisk /mbr...the computer was tilted on its side, and so I guess the CD came lose from its spinning and made a horrible noise, so I pushed eject frantically...only to see the computer boot as normal. *shrug*

I think you just invented a brand new computer repair technique. ;D
