Nvidia 71.84 drivers; do they make your card run hotter??

I installed these drivers on my 6800 card, which is tec cooled, & it would appear that they make the card run a lot hotter than the previous drivers I used (66.93), I'm talking somewhere between 10-20c hotter.

This is according to the internal temp monitor, so I immeadiately put this down to the drivers miss reading the sensor. However on touching the back of the card it was warm, normally it's very cold because of the tec & also the overall system temps had gone up & the water in the cooling loop was definitely a lot warmer too.

My question is

a. How is this possible?
b. Has anybody else noticed this with these drivers

Needless to say I've now switched backed to 66.93 drivers & the problem has gone away.

Yes I have the same problem. I installed the new drivers and my temp readings went up to 48C, just sitting idle. Was 40C before the drivers were updated. I have a leadtek 6800GT. Will roll back drivers tonight and see if the temp goes down. Also wanted to know if I take the heatsink off and use artic silver on the chip, if that will help..:thumbsup:

Ok Jimborae. I rolled back to 66.93 and now I am running at 42C. Will try the artic silver tomorrow.....

btw: don't even think of using the new 76.41 drivers, they do not allow OC'ing at all.

76.10's are working quite well for me at present & they do allow overclocking. ;)

oh wow- i have the 71.84 driver and im currently using it. i have no temp monitor on my vid card, so i had no way of knowing that it was getting hotter! I don't think theres any performance difference, do it doesnt matter to me- but is this bad??
