NTLDR is missing

Quick run down of what I've done.

Loaded winxp home on a computer I just built. Decided to load xp pro instead. It wasn't allowing me to put xp pro on the drive. I formatted the drive to wipe it clean and start over. This was formatted in my computer. Now when I try to load xp pro I am getting the message at start up...........NTLDR is missing press ctrl+alt+del to restart.

Any ideas what may be causing this error message?

Thanks to all those who reply.

boot.ini is supposed to point to the drive with ntldr.
Can you give us more info as far as the disk, MB and controller etc... maybe even the bios settings for the boot device?

Its either a disk or bios related problem.

Also, dont over look the obvious, make sure there is not a none bootable floppy in your floppy drive. I dont know how many machines I have "fixed" with that bit of advice.

Yes. And it's always soooooooo embarrasing. Usualy happens on some gawd awful important server that HAS TO BE UP 24/7 or sheet will hit the fan if it isnt up at 8:00 when the big boss arrives it seems.

Usually everyone is suddenly wetting their pants because the thing didnt just boot also. So I get a call at 4:00 in the morning from "the night operator" someone who is scared and barely coherant babbling away at this point, covered in sweat, and just pee'd in his pants to boot.... that just tried to do the daily/weekly system reboot (probably off written notes btw....) and is reading me that message.

The guy actually has a sheet of paper with trouble shooting tips (so I don't receive these calls at 4 in the friggin morning) and if it doesnt reboot it actually says REMOVE THE STUPID FLOPPY DISK and push the button again.

And thanks! Sometimes we overlook the simplest solutions don't we? It may not solve this puzzle but it should of been question number one. I blew it.. You did good!

Well to start with neither one these comps have a floppy drive. I have tried loading this in two comps, one with an asus p4p800 MB and the comp it is going in has a biostar MB. I have tried it in both with the same result. The boot settings in bios were both set to boot from the HDD and then the cd drive.

Since I am fairly new to this I am not sure what you mean Tex by the controller.

I have now also tried to load xp home back up as well with the same result.
