Is a feature of my Radeon 9600XT not working

Hello everybody.

I built myself a new computer after moving country a few months ago and primaily use it for work but sometimes like to play games on it.
I thought that the spec would be good enough to play most games but I was wrong. You can see the spec below.
I tried MOHPA but it was pretty much unplayable, even ath 800x600 so I installed Far Cry, the game runs great at 1024x768 until you get to certain sections (one of them is the room where you get the gun at the beginning, looking into that room runs shockingly while looking behind you runs perfectly) where it grinds down to 1 or 2 fps. I think there is some kind of rendering being attempted which the card doesnt support or isnt working.
I then installed 3dmark03 and ran the tests, the first three run great but the fourth test, "mother nature" starts perfectly on the water then pans up to a turtle where it slows down to 0-1 fps. This happens in every resolution, not just 1024x768. Another wierd thing is that the AGP memory in 3dmark is displayed at 16mb and Ive even seen it as low as 4mb.

I cant see anything wrong in the BIOS and have tried 3 different catalysts versions so am led to believe there is a problem with the card.
If anybody can suggest anything I could try then it would be most appreciated as Im pulling my hair out here.

Would flashing the cards BIOS make a difference and if so, how do I go about doing it. I've always used NVIDIA in the past and am starting to wish I'd stuck with that philosophy now.

Did you install the motherboard AGP driver? My guess is that's what's wrong.

Yeah, its an NForce3 250 so the latest forceware drivers were the first thing that went on the PC when I set it up.
I just installed the omega ATI drivers, now the memory shows up correctly and the mother nature test can run but the overall results are significatly slower, down from 3049 to 2300. Aquamark results are down too.
I think this is definitely a driver issue. Driving me insane.
