Nvidia's NV38 release to delay NV40

Graphics card manufacturers are expected to be showing off their latest Nvidia based products at Computex Taipei (rescheduled from June) near the end of next month. The new cards will be based on Nvidia's new NV36 and NV38 GPU's, which are believed to act as a succession to the 5600 and 5900 line of cards. The cards are expected to hit the market in good time for Christmas.

The two new chips predicted release however indicates that Nvidia has decided to push back the release of the NV40, possibly in an attempt to make the most of the AGP 8X market before PCI Express starts to make an appearance. So it seems the NV36 and NV38 are primarily designed to fill the gap before the eventual arrival of the NV40.

Yeah, they both give us good as they get, though I imagine the NV38 will just be a higher clocked version of the 5900, so I doubt they will dominate over ATI, and possibly even the reverse. Either way, I look forward to seeing what both companies put out.

It's all swings and roundabouts. ATI will hold the speen crown for a few months, then Nvidia will. I can't see that changing for a while. The main question is, how much of a gap will there be each time. Nvidia may at the moment sit in the big chair, but it's only by a tiny margin. It's all about how much better, no whether it is or not.
