XP Pro Hangs on Reinstallation

edited March 2005 in Hardware
Hey everyone. Ok, I'm trying to reinstall windows XP. When I boot from the cd, it starts to self install and everything and all is fine and dandy until it comes to the screen that describes "Surf the internet safe, fast, and easy" or whatever and it talks about "xp pro with sp2 patch has the most up-to-date version of Internet Explorer that includes pop up blocking..." etc. It says too that there are "aproximately 34 minutes remaining" for installation. I have to hard reset every time because the computer won't respond at all (keyboard or mouse). Any help would be excellent.

did you format the drive first? does the drive have any bad sectors? is it a new drive? more info on your hardware setup, specifically the hdd

Try disabling all devices not needed to install XP in the bios (not needed to install) as you can install them later.

Disable USB, sound and printer ports etc... Leave the LAN for now now and all other devices. Clean your cd also.
