20-24 adapator?

edited March 2005 in Hardware
I just got my dfi nf4 ultra-d yesterday and was deciding on my power supply. I was going for the Turbo-Cool 425 Deluxe but its a 20pin power connector and the m/b is a 24. So i was wondering; is there any "loss" along the rails using a 20-24 adapator?

You can just plug the 20 pin directly into the 24pin connector and it will work. No adapter needed. I have a system on the exact same board with an Antec TruPower 20pin and it's working excellently.

I ran my Ultra-D with a True430 20-pin without any issues. DFI very strongly recommends using a 24-pin PSU. They are always encouraging it on their support forums.

One note: apparently if you want to use the +5V memory jumper, you have to have all ATX pins connected (i.e 24-pin psu or 20-pin with adapter).

That PCP&C psu will work fine, but you may want to reconsider, and pick up an ATX2.0 PSU, it'll be more future friendly, especially considering how pricy those PCP&C supplies are. Might make more sense to get something with native SATA, PCI-E connectors and 24-pin. You should give the 510-Express a look-see, I picked one up and am very happy with it. Its a pretty future proof PSU, and very beefy compared to the 425.

OCZ also makes some really mean 24-pin PSU's, and cost significantly less than the PCP&C units. I probably would have bought one if it wasn't for the fact that it is a few centimeters deeper than most standard atx powersupplies, and wouldn't fit in my rig. (mackanz, do you have a suggestions box? :D)
