Internet Explorer 6 SP2 Coming Soon?

In a recently released Microsoft knowledge base article, discussing a newly discovered bug in IE6 SP1, the company refered to IE6 SP2, claiming a fix for the bug will be included in it.

This might be a possible indication that Microsoft are planning to release an update for their popular browser sooner than expected, i.e before the next Windows XP service pack.

They have an August, 2003 Cumulative Security Patch for IE available now that addresses some security issues. I think from this point for a while they will be using security patches unless they get a mess and have to service pack them to get them put in in the right order in a group installation. I grabbed mine 2-3 hours ago on WindowsUpdate. It DID update my WindowsUpdate software also.

Also, if there is a Service Pack per se, please read the fine print as to what is in it before applying it, as Microsoft will be reworking their plugins code to eliminate Eolas's patented code. They promised Eolas they would do so and paid them a $521,000,000+ penalty for not licensing it previously in a case settlement with Eolas.

This is estimated by eWeek and W3C to impact MANY websites, and I am happy Short-Media does not use much streaming media itself internal to site presentation. I have too few details to say more right now, this is a general headsup.
