Windows XP and AMD Athlon 64

Will Windows XP install on a 64bit AMD processor? If I do upgrade, I need to know if Windows XP will run on the $1075 worth of 64 bit computer upgrade that I'll be doing.

Supposedly, the 64-Bit version of XP is almost ready to go. Unless things have changed, MS intends to offer a trade-in program which amounts to a free upgrade.
There are free d/l's of the beta 64-Bit XP, though with the official release so close I don't know that you'd want to bother with them. (Unless you are one of those who like to format frequently anyway.)
I'm still running the 32-Bit version of XP on my A64-3500+. Every bit of software I ran before runs fine on my new rig.

Would love to see a link for that here.. as from what I understand there will be no planned retail version of Windows for AMD 64. Striclty a OEM distribution as MS isnt interested in the support or driver developement for the project at this time. So they plan to relase it to OEM's and let them handle driver and OS support.

Many more links here.
This story has been floating around ever since MS announced a 64-Bit version of XP. It may be limited to server versions, though...
As far as being OEM only, once Intel gets their mainstream 64-Bit CPU's out I'd be surprised if MS passed up a chance to hop on that bandwagon.
