external dvd burners

I heard that external drives that use usb are slower. Are there any other issues with external drives. Firewire ports any better? Any decent external dvd +/- drives anyone can recommend?

    yes they are slower because the max across fire wire or usb 2.0 is 39-43 megs

    ide can get up to 100 meg

    saying that I really like my Plextor PX-716UF

    it is DL 8X drive

    not problems, and fast too
