Boot CD help!

edited March 2005 in Hardware
Hi, Only me, (again! sigh)

Can anyone help me with making a boot cd for winXP please?

I HAVE NO FLOPPY DRIVE ONLY AN EXTERNAL CDROM

My OS is a bit buggered and wont work at all (tried all sorts to get it going) and I want to do a system restore but I have a problem!

In order for me to do this I need to start my machine in DOS mode (which im having great difficulty doing by myself) to run the restore programme. Its an english version custom made disks as the original ones are in japnesse and dont autorun grrr! so it needs to start with the following command "<drive>:\ghost\ghostpe.exe"

Tried doing it with a win98se cdrom but the cd drive becomes invalid when I swap disks over so would prefer all the data on the one disk

So, what i am needing is a bootable DOS CDROM with all the files from my recovery disk included on it as well.

I have already downloaded Nero burning rom to do it with if thats ok to use?

Many thaks for your time and possible help

Regards
Trevor

Will all your files even fit on a floppy? You say you don't have a floppy drive....

Can you even boot off a external cdrom? Many bios's won't

If it will fit on a floppy get a boot image from bootdisk.com and use a iso modifying program like ultra iso to add the files to the floppy boot image and burn it

    Hi,

No, the files are much to large for a floppy. The total size of the files and an ISO image would be around 650MB. Yes the external CDROM is a bootable drive so theres not a problem with that. I've tried downloading a few bits from bootdisk.com but because I don't have a floppy drive on the PC i'm using either there not much good to me. I already have nero which will burn ISO images, all I need really (I think) is just a DOS ISO image(or equivelent boot image)to burn onto disk with my other files to run the programme Which is what i'm having trouble finding.

Go here and download my Ghost bootable CD image.
Use Nero to burn it to a CD and select 'boot from CD' in bios. Upon boot the CD will be detected as drive a:\

    Good luck!

Can he add 650mb of files to that EQ? So many of the boot images are floppy based and croak when you exceed floppy sizes? A ghost image that can hold big ghosted files may be much better.

I am NOT arguing just curious.

No, the image I posted is just the Ghost executable. He needs a second CD/DVD or HD containing the image to be restored.

Will it still keep the cd drive valid if I swapped over the disks once it was booted up? booted up with a friends win98se cdrom before and when I changed the disk over to my restore disk the drive became invalid and it also said that command.com was missing, corrupt or invalid, one of them! can't remember which!

Thought I would give it a try anyway but it won't download the image! comes up with the following message:

    "569 No Data
This Web page could not be opened with the specified browser request. Please try again later."

No sorry, you can't change disks. You gonna have to borrow another CDROM if the image you're trying to retore is on CD.

Are you using IE? cause I can download it just fine...

No, On AOL but will try on IE

    Ah right!

You say thet I can't run 650MB worth of files along with the image yeah?
because the files I need run is norton ghost 2002 which is 620KB and the actual restore file which is a ghost file thats 649MB in size

The ISO image it's only good to emulate a floppy drive thus you can't have more data than 1.44MB on it.
The purpose of this image is to allow you to boot to Ghost and restore an image stored on a backup drive or another CDROM/DVD
