I need some help please.

Hello, and thank you.

I am having a terrible problem. My PC is locking up after any reset or reboot, and I have noticed an application called "ruin" that shows up in the startup menu whenever I reset. It appears to run and then disappears completely. I have tried to delete it, but I get an error that says that the program is running and can not be deleted. I have also done a search for it within my PC and have not been able to find it anywhere.

I have ran AdAware, SpyBot, and the HijackThis log is attached.

Again, thank you for any help or advice that you may be able to offer.

Joe

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [hdhdrwxx] c:\windows\system32\hdhdrwxx.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\iakviz.exe

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist):

    c:\windows\system32\hdhdrwxx.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\iakviz.exe

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log. It appears as if you've cut off the bottom portion of this log. Please be sure to post the entire log in your next post.

Thank you again for your help. I am sorry for the delay, but this computer takes a long time to load any programs, especially IE in it's current state.
I have followed your instructions, and the new log is included. I do not think that I cut off the bottom of the last log, and I made sure that I included everything in this one that I could see. It also looks like this "O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\iakviz.exe" has reappeared.

I was able to drag that "ruin" application out of the Startup menu onto the dektop and delete it, but when I reboot now it reappears on the desktop.

Anyway, thanks again for your time and effort. Myself and many others truly appreciate what you do.

Please run at least two of these online scans.
Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

    http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

If there are files that can not be removed by the scans please include that information in your next post.

You are using an outdated version of Hijackthis.
Please download the current version of Hijackthis and post a new hijackthis log.

I am having the same problem as he is...except my file is called rrriil.exe...it's in the same directory..but there's also another file that I think is triggering that file to reappear..which is called in my case...dddr.exe and is located in my C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder..but the thing is..even with view hidden files on..and all..the file isn't there to delete..but Hijackthis seems to detect it..For more info I posted a thread called "Help"..hopefully that helps out...

I am having trouble getting the scans to run. It taken the computer minutes to load IE, then the page, then the scan, and the scan will attempt to run and then not respond.

One of them did show this before it stopped: TROJ_DLOADER.DG
I think that I was able to delete it, however the ruin.exe still shows up after every reboot and has my CPU usage up to 100%. I suppose that is why I am having trouble with the scans.

Here is the log from the updated HJT. Is there anything else that I can do?

Thank you again for your time.

Ok, let's try this another way. I want you to download two programs to your computer. Install each of them and make sure to check for updates, but don't run them yet.

    AVG Antivirus
    http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg70free_300a419.exe

    A2
    http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

You will need to register with A2 in order to get the updates, but it is free.

Once you have both programs installed and fully updated reboot your computer into Safe Mode. Next make sure you can see hidden files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

Now let's clean up your temp files. This will decrease the time it takes to run the scans and probably get rid of some malware also.

    Delete temp files

Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Navigate to the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Open the Prefetch folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Prefetch folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

Finally(while still in Safe Mode) run a full scan with A2 first and then AVG. Take note of anything that can't be removed and include that info in your next post.

Reboot back to normal mode and post a new hijackthis log.

Done, finally. Please bear with me. I am struggling through this with this PC. It is working very slowly. I did not have any problems getting the programs downloaded, but getting them updated was a different story. I had to re-boot several times, and the computer locks up about 4 out of every 5 times it starts up after a re-boot.
Once the programs were updated, I had no problems getting inte SafeMode, with the exception of the ruin.exe file being in the Startup folder there as well. However it did not seem to effect the PC as much. I deleted all of the temp files as you instructed, and ran the two programs. Both ran relatively fast with A2 finding about three files that were deleted, and then AVG finding another three or four. Those were deleted by the program also. There were no files left that were not fixed by the programs.
Once the scans were completed, I re-booted into normal mode, and after a half dozen re-boots or so, I have the new HJT log to post.
FYI - The ruin.exe was still in the startup folder in Normal mode after the deletion of the temp files and scans in Safe mode.
Again, please bear with me. I am completing this stuff as quickly as I can. Thanks again for your help and patience.

    Have Hijackthis remove this line.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\iakviz.exe

    Then delete this file.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\iakviz.exe

Now I would like to get a different log from Hijackthis.

Start Hijackthis and click on "Open the Misc Tools section"
Now put a checkmark next "List also minor sections(full)" and click "Generate StartupList log". Please copy the text that appears and post it in your next reply.

You have a new type of infection that a proven fix is still being established for. What we need to do now is collect some information from your computer so we can hopefully identify the bad files that need to be deleted.

Download the the FindQoologic-Narrator.zip and save it to your Desktop.
    http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=134981

    1. Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic.
    2. Open the FindQoologic folder.
    3. Locate and double-click the Activesetup.vbs file to run it.
Please wait until a "Finished" message appears.
    4. Now Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat to run it.
    * The tool will open a DOS window and begin to check your system.
When it is finished a text file will open in Notepad called "file.txt".
    * Save this text file in the FindQoologic folder or just post it.
    * Close the DOS box If on win 98 or me.
    5. Locate the "Activesetup components[Machine ID][date].txt" file.
    * Copy and paste the contents of both reports into your next post.

    Download rkfiles.zip
    http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
Unzip the contents to a permanent folder.

    Reboot in Safe mode.

    Doubleclick rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the DOS window closes and reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt in your next reply.

    Sam,
Whan I double click on the Activesetup.vbs I get a Windows Script Host window that contains the following message: Can't find script engine "VBScript".....and then displays the path or directory for the file.
    What should I do now?

Also, I had HJT fix the entry that you suggested, and it seems to come back afterwards. I could not find the file that you wanted me to delete either. I went step by step through the foldres, and it was not there, and I did a search for it that did not find it either.

On a side not, I did update my Norton and the PC is running better, but it did not resolve the problem.

Thanks again for your time and help.

    Joe

    Jtchristian,

I apologize for my lack of a timely response. I have been out of town for several days and unable to access my computer until now. While I had hoped that someone would take over for me while I was gone, this is a complicated fix, so understandably nobody wanted to jump in the middle.

The good news is that the last rkfiles log that you posted finally showed us what we need to kill to get you fixed up. But since it has been several days since that log was posted please post a new rkfiles log just in case something has changed. With this infection we need to be sure to get it all at once.

I'll be watching for your reply and will be responding quickly.

    Download Killbox from here.
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip
Run KillBox, select the option: Replace on Reboot
Then, in the Full Path of File to Delete box, copy and paste this entry:

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\iakviz.exe

    Select the option: Use Dummy
Press the button with a red circle and a white X (Delete File button)
Click Yes at the Replace on Reboot confirmation prompt.
Click No at the request to reboot.

Do the exact same as above for each and every one of the files that follow, and select No at the request to reboot!

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\douad.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\wgkpw.dat
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winup2date.dll

Finally, in the Full Path of File to Delete, copy and paste the following:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\ruin.exe

Press the button with a red circle and a white X.
Click Yes at the Replace on Reboot prompt.
Click Yes at the request to reboot.

On this last file, close KillBox and Notepad, and Reboot the computer!!

Run Hijackthis and fix this line.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\iakviz.exe

Reboot once more and post a new hijackthis log.

On a side note, Norton found C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\iakviz.exe and
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winup2date but it could not delete or quarantine them. The Norton web page gave instructions for manually deleting them, but when I searched for them I could not find them. At least I am learning a few things as you help me along. Many thanks. Joe

Your log looks clean. Are you still experiencing problems? How does it feel?

    Sam,
It looks great. So far so good.

I know that you are probably burned out, but can you steer me in the direction of help for anothe problem.
I have a window that appears after every startup. It is Java Virtual Machine Launcher, and within the window the message reads "Could not find the main class. Program will exit." I don't think it is causing any problems, and it has been there for some time now. It's just a bother.

Anyway, THANK YOU again. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help you or your cause.

    Joe

Let's see if we missed anything. Can you show me another rkfiles log and see if you can get the FindQoologic tool to run and produce a log also.

Next you can have hijackthis fix these lines. These are optional fixes of programs that load at startup and don't need to. This will free up some resources and help your computer load and run faster. And it may just fix your problem too.
