Sony PSP: Hot or Not?

FormFactorFormFactor At the core of forgotten
edited April 2005 in Gaming
So the PSP has been out for a week or so and the minions on the front lines of the "scene" are already hard at work releasing all kinds of useful homebrew apps and hacks .

It wont be long before we have a functioning PSP Linux build.

You can have bittorrent automatically download your favorite TV shows and pspvideo9 will automatically convert them to a PSP supported format.

And someone has hacked an adaptor together to allow it to read sd memory.

From a scene prospective this thing is quite a buzz

What do you guys think of the PSP? Hot or Not

As long as they remain hackable (and thus, hot), then I'll probably get one whenever they have a price drop. Probably around Christmas.

Oh so hot. They even come in a PSP "condom" as to not scratch the screen. My buddy is a manager at Blockbuster's Game dept. and gets to use the store copy. He comes over to me an all nonchalantly whips the PSP out and starts fiddling with it. I'm havin a hard time deciding on what to spend my tax return on, a PSP or Supra parts.. It's such a conundrum.

Not hot. I can't see any legitimate reason to buy one (except maybe GT4 Mobile)

I'm almost Nintendo fanboy material, but I'm not gonna lie. It's damn hot. I watched my friend hook his up to his laptop and start playing mp3's on it. I'll probably get the DS myself, but with unlimited funding I'd definitely get the PSP.

Decidedly not hot, that price is ridiculous.

And with the LCD problems, I'll wait for a couple of more iterations of the hardware and software and price point before I buy. And the game selection at the moment doesnt really excite me.

Waiting for price drop myself.... I'd definitly buy it for $200 if I had $200 to spare. By then I'd think most problems would be solved, of course... I really don't see most of the crap listed as real issues. My cousin says at least 10 others in his class has one and they play against each other all the time, no one has had any problems with their system

    waiting for price drop.

    waiting for hardware revisions

    waiting for Linux hack.

Then I am running right out and buying one.

    :wtf:

I'm really only intersted in the hacks. I'm not such a gaming addict that I need to have games with me at all times. When somebody gets the PSP to play other file formats (OGG, Xvid, etc) and if there's ever the ability to add PDA-like organizer programs, and there's a price drop, then I'd probably get one. A way of connecting an external CD drive would be cool too.
