Not sure if this means we won't get a copy of RC3, if there is one or not....
Either way, it's one step closer to better driver support.
The Customer Preview Program for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Release Candidate 2 (RC2) is now closed.
While you can no longer register to receive the Customer Preview Program Kit or the trial downloadable software for RC2, we expect the full-release version of the preview kit and the downloadable trial software to be available soon.
Already registered for RC2? Don't worry. If you've already registered for the Customer Preview Program Kit or the downloadable software for RC2, your order will be filled.

This is not a retail package. MS expects OEM's that sell this OS on a workstation to supply any additional drivers and do all end user support. Thats means Dell, Compaq/HP or Sun or Gateway etc... Thats who has to develope drivers and support this thing.
They see this as a niche market. It will cost considerably more then 32bit XP and they envision it as a workstation not a server. A high end workstation. Like Dell/HP would seel to corporate power users and specialty applications.
They are not willing to take on the end user support and its going to be a mess for awhile since many programs don't run quite right and so many drivers are missing.
In 18 to 24 months I think its going to change. But with so little 64bit software available it's going to be slow for the next 12 months. From those OEM's they need corporate America to help drive this push and force the issue. And with no 64bit software that 95 percent of Corporate America uses on the desktop it's going to be slow for awhile.
For instance if MS gets a 64bit version of Office that power users will squeel for and get some penetration onto the corporate desktop we may see a shift.
Companies like MS view gamers/Overclockers as a tiny tiny market that probably causes more problems then they are worth. They want no part of you as their main customer base for a new OS.
