    another chris,

    Hello! and welcome to the Short Media forums.

    ===============

    Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done 'cleaning' off your system, we're going to 'flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.

    Also move the "Backups" folder, for HiJackThis, if present.

    ===============

    When we're done cleaning off your system, i'd recommend that you install all the critical windows updates available from Microsoft, upto service pack 1. This will help to make your system more secure and prevent many 'problems' from reoccuring in the future.

    ===============

    Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

    1. Click "Free Online Scan".
    2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

    It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

    1. Select all available drives.
    2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
    3. Click "Scan".

    When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

    ===============

    Download, unzip to your desktop About:Buster and run it, then:

    1. Click "Update".
    2. Click "Check For Update"

    (If no new version is available, skip to step #4.)

    3. Click "Download Update", and wait for it to be installed.
    4. Click "Start".

    (Wait for the initial ADS scan to complete.)

    5. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE session currently open.

    (Wait for the about:blank scan to complete.)

    6. Click "Ok", to scan once more.
    7. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE sessions currently open.
    8. Click "Yes", to begin the second pass.

    9. Click "Save log", and post this log back along with your new log.
    10. Click "Exit".
    11. Click "Exit".

    ===============

    Next, Open a command prompt by:

    1. Clicking "Start", then "Run...".
    2. Enter "cmd" (without the quotes).
    3. Enter "services.msc" (without the quotes).

    -

    Now, locate and 'stop' the following services, if present:

    Workstation NetLogon Service ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) owner ... (C:\WINDOWS\system32\apiyc.exe)

    Look carefully, since the name of the service (above) can be anywhere in the entry; also be careful not to 'stop' any required system services.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis then:

    1. Click "Config..."
    2. Click "Misc Tools"
    3. Click "Open Process manager"

    -

    Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\apiyc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\javarn32.exe

    Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

    ===============

    Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

    regsvr32 /u netst.dll

    It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\qcpzq.dll/sp.html#28129

    Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

    ===============

    Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

    files...

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\apiyc.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\javarn32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\qcpzq.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\netst.dll

    -

    Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".

    ===============

    Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

    That looks good now. Are you still experiencing problems?
    You can manually delete the 3 files found by trend.

    Hi guys I think its usefull to skip hijackthis for a second and concentrate on your targets with a program that does it for you its free.

    Ms AntiSpyware

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/1/5/815d2d60-49b5-44dc-ae35-fca2f2c6f0cc/MicrosoftAntiSpywareInstall.exe

    You may also try Webroot Spysweeper 3.5 its with 30 days fulluse trail
    http://www.download.com/1200-2018-5136615.html

    There is also a program were you can scan with and check on the files it picks up its very usefull if you know what your looking for.

    www.pctools.com or http://www.download.com/1200-2018-5139934.html spyware doctor version 3.2 atm.(its not free of use but very usefull if you look at what it pickups) very powerfull try it and look into the results for a change.

    Another program that scans for nonsence modules that might have targeted your PC with a drive-by-install that and might have in progress is

    Security Taskmanager its freeware and will work www.neuber.com
    http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/index.html

    Its userfriendly interface works realtime, if you have questions about its detections just post it. plz.

    Atm I only use Hijackthis in rare case of reg alt. or ini startups.

    I think for all users this should be a more powerfull solution and computer friendly in user interface layouts.

    Dont underestimate MS antispyware since it has a load of hidden good functions at advanced tools>system explorer, options. So plz try it out.

    It even has Suspected spyware reporting. spynet.

    Have a nice day.

    Unfortunately it does not remove the about:blank infection at the moment :). If it did, I would be advising it's use.
    Also, it is still in Beta and as such, can cause problems for the user.
