Security settings are getting in the way!

I'm trying to download some software from the internet, and I keep getting the warning box saying "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded", even though I've got them at the lowest setting in Internet Options.

What can I do to change them or temporarily disable them?

I had this problem with playing videos on ebaumsworld for the past few weeks, but today several videos played normally without warning windows popping open.

We had a computer stopping us from going to some sites. Never did figure out why, as we also played with security settings to no avail.

Downloaded FireFox and it worked perfectly. Still don't know the reason, so bypassed it.

In IE, go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security Settings. Click the Custom Level button. Scroll down the list of settings until you see the Downloads section, about 1/4 of the way down. Check the setting for File Download, see if it is enabled or disabled. If it is disabled, change it to enabled, hit OK, then Apply, and OK.

If the setting was already enabled, then we need to look at some other things.

    Where were you downloading from?

Can you download software from anywhere?

Try going to the Short-Media Downloads section and download something from there. Try going to Download.com and see if you can download from there. If you can download from those locations, then we will need to check your Trusted Sites and Restricted Sites settings to see if something there is preventing you from downloading from that certain site.

    Let us know.

The security settings for downloads were enabled.

I routinely download lots of things from many different websites, but these few sites have recently been causing problems. Ebaumsworld was doing it for a week or 2, but yesterday it worked fine.

I went to download grokster yesterday and it absolutely refused to allow me to download it.

OK, check your Restricted Sites zones to see if you have any entries in there:

Tools -> Internet Options -> Security Settings. Click Restricted Sites, then click the Sites button, see what is listed. If anything is, let us know.

Ah yes, I see grokster in the list. That would be my Spyware Blaster 3.2 program that is blocking it. I'll disable SB3.2 and try again.

Or just manually remove Grokster from the Restricted list.
