I looked in my Task Manager and found that 43 processes is running when doing nothing. I presume this is a problem because I read that you should only be running between 10 and 20 processes when doing nothing.

I ran Hijackthis and the following appeared in the log. Can somebody maybe tell me what is PROBLEM entries.

I felt too bad just sitting around waiting for somebody else to solve my problem. What do they always say "ignorance is no excuse"? With this in mind I tried to analyze my own log and would much appreciate a second opinion. Taking in consideration that I am a total novice on this subject (and of cause many more) the following is going to give all the geniuses on this site a moment to sit back and have a good laugh.

Firstly I want to start by thanking shwaip for threat “Helpful Spyware Resources”.
Thank you very much for giving this ignorant sole a place to start.

I went through all the processes and am to chicken to do anything without asking for the advice of more knowledgeable individuals

    1. With the C:\ processes I had no idea so it would be much appreciated if somebody can help pointing out any doggy ones

    2. R0, R1, R2, R3 - IE Start & Search pages
I do recognize the URL and due to the fact that there is no R3 processes I am making the big assumption that these processes are fine.

    3. O3 - IE toolbars
    O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdxm.ocx

I used BHO & Toolbar List and it came back with Status = L so I thing this one is fine.

    4. O4 - Autoloading programs
Most of the 04 processes look fine but I am not sure about the following ones =>

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status N and U ??????

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installquiet = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status N and X ??????

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SigmaTel StacMon] C:\Program Files\SigmaTel\SigmaTel AC97 Audio Drivers\stacmon.exe =
It did not find anything for this one ?????

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LTSMMSG] LTSMMSG.exe = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status N ??????

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status N ??????

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PRONoMgr.exe] c:\Program Files\Intel\PROSetWireless\NCS\PROSet\PRONoMgr.exe = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status N and U ??????

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Omnipage] C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\OmniPageSE\opware32.exe = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status N ??????

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" –atboottime = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status N and X ??????

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ctfmon.exe = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status U and X ??????

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background = I am not sure if I should remove this process because it is coming back with Status U and X ??????

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office OneNote 2003 Quick Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\ONENOTEM.EXE = No name to search for but I assume this is fine because it is Microsoft ?????

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE = No name to search for but I assume this is fine because it is Microsoft ?????

    5. O9 - Extra buttons on main IE toolbar, or extra items in IE 'Tools' menu I am not sure about these ones =>

Your log is clean. You can leave all of those entries. If you want to lower the number of running processes and decrease the amount of used CPU Usage, you can stop these items from starting on boot (go to Start then Run and type msconfig, then go to Startup and uncheck them)

    C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe
    C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe

I just want to thank you for your help - much appreciated.

I am a little worried that when I run XOFTSPY it is telling me that I have

A Data Miner from Vendor Alexa
    And a Trojan from Trojan.Adminchash

When I run NoAdware v3.0 it does not find anything
When I run Spybot it does not find anything
