On the 6600GT the extra ram really isn't needed. I take it you are just scaleing back due to money?

But I really think he should get the GT as the extra memory won't do him any good but the GT really is a lot better. ;)

I wouldn't doubt that they are close in price and that the gt is more expensive ...I suppose it's true what they say "you get what you pay for".
I've just read so many good things about the gt ...it's also supposedly the best bang for your buck from what I've read. It's the only 128 bit card I've considered in the past few years.
Of course I prefer the 9800 pro but that wasn't a choice!

These are the pci cards in this roundup ...the 6600's weren't listed in the agp roundup.
According to a recent article that I read which is probably the one I listed above ...it seemed that the 9800 pro 256 bit beat the 6600gt in the 3dmark benches but once it came to the more realistic game benches the 6600gt pulled ahead. This card is loaded with lots of mem and a high frequency gpu. Basically it looks to me like the 128 bit version of the 6800gt.

well if that doesn't work out I was thinking ...you could sneeze on it - fry it -rma it - get a refund - buy a brand new 6600gt w/ change in your pocket!! ;D j/k

That was actually one of the sources I drew from when I decided on my current card. Anandtech has some real good shootouts too.
