The only trouble you may run into is that the new 98 install may stop your bootloader (GRUB, LILO) from loading, and just load 98. That can be fixed via a re-install of your bootloader though
How do i re-install the bootloader?
I want to know the steps.
You will need to boot into a linux enviroment and run either grub-install or lilo. Telling us what distro you are using would help, I'm not going to type out the steps for all of them
In short, you boot from a CD, enter into your linux enviroment, and use the local tools to rewrite the MBR. The only time it gets tricky might be some grub installs on a raided system.
You might want to spend some time on Google, this is documented very well. Try something like
This
I will try it
