I've done nothing with them exept let ad-ware & spybot have a try at fammext. Seems to have worked, niether program brought up thin-137-3-x-x. Here is my HJT file.

Doing as you ask. Thanks for the help.
On a side note where do i down load F@H and how do I make sure it counts towards the team?

You can grab it off the SM download page here: http://www.short-media.com/download.php?dc=57.

During the installation it will ask you for a 'Team Number'. Simply put 93 and you will be folding for Short-Media.

If you have any other questions about F@H I encourage you to check out the team page here.

    Cheers :)

    Hi JB,

If you are not sure how to do some of the things I tell you, check the links I provide for instructions. You may want to print these instructions out for easy reference, or copy and paste to Notepad. Do not leave your browser open while performing these fixes.

Set your system to Show Hidden Files and folders.

For Windows XP or ME, Disable System Restore.

Next, I want you to PULL THE PLUG on your computer. This is to prevent problem files from changing their names if you do a soft reboot. This entry:

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll

has been reported to do that in some cases.

Plug the power back in, turn the system on, and boot into Safe Mode.

Make sure that all Internet Explorer or any other browser windows or internet applications are closed. Do not have any other unnecessary programs running.

Run Hijack This. FIX THE FOLLOWING (place a checkmark beside the entries, and then press the Fix Checked button) :

    **************
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [uwrhhn] c:\windows\system32\uwrhhn.exe

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

((That file is not a big problem but it is rported that it used by Realtek to gather data about customers, so it's a privacy issue, remove it if you don't like manfacturers snooping on your usage.))

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

O18 - Protocol: start - (no CLSID) - (no file)

O19 - User stylesheet: (file missing)

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: igfxcui - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll

    O23 - Service: FAH@C:+Documents and Settings+Owner+Desktop+FAH502-Console.exe - Unknown owner - C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\FAH502-Console.exe (file missing)

((You may need to re-install Folding at Home, it looks like the file has been removed here. I would guess that one of the 3 programs recommended above removed it because it did not know what it was...that's one of the problems with some applications, they can be a little touchy. ))

    O23 - Service: McAfee Privacy Service (GuardDogEXE) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee Privacy Service\GUARDDOG.EXE" /SERVICE (file missing)

((The file is missing here so remove the entry.))

    **************

Stay in Safe mode, manually locate these files

    c:\windows\system32\uwrhhn.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\igfxsrvc.dll

    and quarantine them.

Reboot normally, check things out, and come back to let us know how it turned out. Post a fresh HJT log for review. If things looks clean, re-enable your system restore and set a new restore point.

did as you asked, except I could not find the file windows\system32\uwrhhn.exe to quarantine it. When I reboot now I get the error
"hkcmd module encountered a problem and must shut down" windows error reporting states it's an Intel program.
    Here's a new HJT log

Ok I did a little Googling and this is what I came up with.

    Check out http://www.hp.com/pond/windowsxp/HP_Compaq_Business_Desktops_SP2_v2.pdf.

If you scroll down to page 6 you will see a problem similar to yours. Apparently I might have something to do with SP2.

Since you have an intel chipset like it mentioned, Please try reinstalling your video drivers.

Let us know how it goes! :)
  • edited April 2005
Downloaded new drivers and no problems at reboot.

Thanks everyone for all your help!!

Here is one last HJT log if you find nothing of concern I think I'm done for now

Thanks much I'm sure I'll be back :o

Glad to help. Your spyware problems are solved but I see a problem with your folding set up.

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\I5V8L0ZI\FAH502-Console[1].exe

Your console is in the Temporary Internet Files directory. I now suspect that this is why it went missing before, when you empty out the Temp Internet files directory, the console gets trashed.

You should re-download it to a dedicated directory, like C:\Folding.

First, fix this entry in HJT:

    O23 - Service: FAH@C:+Documents and Settings+Owner+Local Settings+Temporary Internet Files+Content.IE5+I5V8L0ZI+FAH502-Console[1].exe - Stanford University - C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\I5V8L0ZI\FAH502-Console[1].exe

This will kill the existing folding service. Then go to:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\I5V8L0ZI\

and wipe out everything in there. You are going to lose some folding work already done, unfortunately.

Then go to your new C:\Folding directory, run the Console again, enter in your username, Team 93, and any custom settings, and let it install again. Then you will not have it mysteriously disappear again.

Post a final log when you have done that.

    Dexter...
