my mom wants to buy a camera for the trip to itally. she wanted me to find a nice inexpensive one so i found this:

its a 4.0 mp camera with 3 Opt zoom and 3.6 digital zoom
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=30-120-121&depa=7

and we would probly get a 512mb CF card to go with it. My mom wants to know how many pics it is capable of holding on all of the resolutions

2,272 x 1,704 = # of pics on a 512mb CF
1,600 x 1,200 = # of pics on a 512mb CF
1,024 x 768 = # of pics on a 512mb CF
640 x 480 = # of pics on a 512mb CF

It depends on the pictures. Jpeg is lossy compression. Certain pics will compress more tightly than others and thus you will be able to fit more on the disk, etc.

I will give you VERY average numbers:

On the highest setting (2272x1704), you can expect images to be between 1.8 and 3mb each.

A total rough guess would be 120-150 pictures on the highest quality setting. I'd bring an extra 512mb card... If she goes to any reasonably decent sized cities, she'll be able to pick up another card in Italy too if she absolutely has to.

Is she going soon? I keep seeing interviews on the news of tourists who are there now. A lot of history is being made there right now, continuing for at least the next few weeks. :)

If you do a lot of deleting of crappy photos, then the 512 should hold you. But, remember to bring great batteries. The highest NiMH's (if your camera takes AA) or a spare battery. You will be hard pressed to find an outlet when you're snapping pics.

I was there 6 months ago and saw a mass with the Pope. I'm glad I stuck around.

Its a great city and you'll want to take a lot of pics. Also, with a digital camera one normally takes 2-3 times more shots than with normal film.

Oh, bring some comfortable shoes and most holy places don't allow shorts on men or "short" skirts or sleeveless tops/low necklines on women.

the tail just isn't porcine enough...so a dog/pig hybrid is my guess. A weird experiment gone wrong perhaps?

    Impossible...

I will reference the South Park episode where the kids have to come up with a project to splice the DNA of one animal into another.

Haven't you heard that song by Loverboy?

:Rocker: Pig and dog DNA JUST wont splice. :Rocker:
