Home search assistant removal assistance PLEASE...taylorj99

I've read some of the other threads and have already run Spybot and Adaware. I have also rebooted in Safe Mode and saved a fresh HJT log. Could someone please take a look at this and help me out. Thanks.

Well, I've done a couple of things that I've read in other threads here. Here's what my HJT log looks like now. I don't think I've got everything. Still have pop-ups and this desktop search thing too. Anyway, here's the log.

You've got a real nasty infection that has proven difficult to remove. But the good news is that we've learned a lot about this since it has first come out. We will need to collect some information from your computer so we can see the files that are causing the problem.

    STEP ONE

Download LSPFix from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip and run it.

Check the I know what I'm doing box.

In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of the following files.

    aklsp.dll

Select every instance of this file, but no others, and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.

When you are done click Finish>>.

    STEP TWO

    Download rkfiles.zip
    http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
Unzip the contents to a permanent folder.

    Reboot in Safe mode.

    Doubleclick rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the DOS window closes and reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt in your next reply.

    STEP THREE

Download the the FindQoologic-Narrator.zip and save it to your Desktop.
    http://forums.net-integration.net/i...=post&id=134981

    1. Extract (unzip) the files inside into their own folder called FindQoologic.
    2. Open the FindQoologic folder.
    3. Locate and double-click the Activesetup.vbs file to run it.
Please wait until a "Finished" message appears.
    4. Now Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat to run it.
    * The tool will open a DOS window and begin to check your system.
When it is finished a text file will open in Notepad called "file.txt".
    * Save this text file in the FindQoologic folder or just post it.
    * Close the DOS box If on win 98 or me.
    5. Locate the "Activesetup components[Machine ID][date].txt" file.
    * Copy and paste the contents of both reports into your next post.

    STEP FOUR

    Post a new hijackthis log.

Please download CWShredder but don't run it yet.
    http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWSInstall.exe

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

Click Yes at the request to reboot.

On this last file, close KillBox and Notepad, and Reboot the computer!!

Next, open CWShredder and click "Fix".

Now I need to see three new log files from you.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

    http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
    http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Also please post a new log from rkfiles and a new hijackthis log.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop Search] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tsvcin] C:\WINDOWS\system32\n20050308.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Nsv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\nsvsvc.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VBundleOuterDL] C:\Program Files\VBouncer\BundleOuter.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\amiaaa.exe

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist):

    C:\WINDOWS\isrvs
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\n20050308.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc
    C:\Program Files\VBouncer
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\amiaaa.exe

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

    Fix this line with hijackthis.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\amiaaa.exe

    Download rkfiles.zip
    http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
Unzip the contents to a permanent folder.

    Reboot in Safe mode.

    Doubleclick rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the DOS window closes and reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt in your next reply along with a new hijackthis log.

    Fix this line with hijackthis.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\amiaaa.exe

Open Killbox and select the Delete on reboot option.

Copy and paste the following file to the field labeled "Full path of file to delete"

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\amiaaa.exe

Press the Delete button (the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it).

A first dialog box will ask if you want to delete the file on reboot, press the YES button.

A second dialog box will ask you if you want to REBOOT now. Press the YES button.

    Your computer will reboot.

    Please download FindQoologic from here:
    http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=134981
Save it to the desktop and run Find-Qoologic2.bat. This will generate a log file; please post the entire contents of the log file here for me to see.

Please download the attached file and download it to your desktop. Then please go to the desktop and double-click on fix.reg, and click Yes to merge it with the registry.

Reboot and post a new FindQoologic log and a new hijackthis log.

Hey, when I open the zip file, nothing is there to extract. What is the file name so that I can search for it. Thanks.
  • Buckeye_SamBuckeye_Sam Columbus, Ohio
    edited April 2005
There's one file named fix.reg in the zip file.
  • edited April 2005
I'm not sure what's going on. When I click on the link for the fix.zip, my Winzip box opens, I click "I agree", it opens, and there's nothing there. What's happening here? Thanks.

    Look for this folder.

    C:\unzipped

The file should be in there.
