OCZ Technology Releases 625MHz Memory Modules For DFI Mainboards

edited April 2005 in Science & Tech
OCZ Technology on Wednesday announced its memory modules capable of operating at unprecedented high speeds, but only on specially created mainboards for overclockers by DFI.
In the past makers of memory modules for enthusiasts and overclockers designed their products by using advanced memory chips with low access time and installing heat-spreaders. Not so long ago the manufacturers of modules began to recommend increasing memory voltages beyond normal levels and then OCZ even revealed a special device that can pump up the memory voltages to extreme levels. Today the industry goes one step further towards proprietary solutions for overclockers as OCZ Technology brings out memory modules designed and certified to run at 625MHz only on AMD Athlon 64 processors and DFI nF4-series of mainboards.

“As a recognized pioneer in offering the highest possible memory frequencies, OCZ developed the PC-5000 Platinum DFI nF4 Special series with performance enthusiasts in mind,” OCZ Technology said in its statement.

The evolution of DDR memory type was officially suspended on the clock-speed of 400MHz with further speed increases fully relied on DDR2 SDRAM. Nevertheless, the industry of manufacturers who server the growing community of those who push their personal computers to the limits have managed to increase the speed-bin of DDR memory gradually to 466MHz, 500MHz, 550MHz, 600MHz. Today OCZ can guarantee that DDR will run stably at whispering 625MHz, provided that its customers have an overclocked AMD Athlon 64 processor on a mainboard based on NVIDIA nForce4 core-logic made by DFI.

“Motherboards and memory modules are always considered the two most critical factors for achieving excellent performance, but truly perfect matches can be challenging to find, and a tailor-made memory module for a specific motherboard catering to enthusiasts is unprecedented,” stated Jacky Huang, General Manager, DFI Inc.

Thats great, but I have a feeling many people will be disappointed, as so much relies on the 'solidness' of the A64 memory controllers, and not necessarily the mainboards. Hopefully the new venice/sandiego chips will take this sort of ram to the limits though! Unfortunatly, not many winchesters/newcastles will fit the part, with today's yeilds.
